31 Dec 08 Is There a Way To Prevent Cold Sores?

COld sores are incredibly unattractive and incredibly annoying! It’s a skin condition that many people suffer from and one that has caused medical companies to produce hundreds of different cold sore products and look for a cold sore cure. However, as many people have found out, most of the available treatments fail to work. Cold sores can be hard to eliminate and many people go their entire lives struggling with this embarrassing condition.

If you suffer from cold sores there are some easy steps that you can take to minimize the problem and help prevent any outbreaks. You can do a number of things to prevent outbreaks, but you can also chop down the time that you have a cold sore when they do pop up. It is possible to stop cold sores when you make a few simple changes.

First, if you live in an area that gets a lot of sun, use a lip balm or chapstick with protection against UV rays. As nice as the sun is, it can be a menace and cause cold sores. When you use a balm with SPF guards, you will block the suns rays from being able to create new cold sores from sprouting up.

Next, try to wash your hands regularly. This is simply advice, but you would be amazed at how many people don’t do this! Your hands come in contact with all sorts of bacteria and dirt throughout the day. If you’re touching your skin, it’s easy to transfer this bacteria to your face, lips or other body parts. Some types of bacteria have been found to cause cold sores - by washing your hands or applying an antibacterial gel every few hours, you will drastically minimize the number of outbreaks you will experience.

Finally, take care of yourself! Try to get enough rest and that you are living a healthy lifestyle. The more stress you put on your body, the harder it is for your body to fight off viruses (which is what cold sores are). Have a good diet, exercise regularly and try to eliminate the stresses in your life. Although this might be a very broad tip, it is crucial in preventing cold sores. This can make all the difference.
