21 Nov 09 Turn your Vista computer into an XP machine

Are you frustrated with the Windows Vista operating system? Don’t you wish you could go back to the Windows XP days again? Even though it is not possible to actually downgrade Windows Vista back to Windows XP, you can make your Vista computer look exactly like a Windows XP machine. Now this will make the machine look like XP but unfortunately you will still have to deal with all the annoying extra security features built-in to Vista

There are 2 easy steps that you need to accomplish in order for this to work. It is also useful to note that these steps are reversible. That means if you ever wanted to go back to having your machine look like Windows Vista again, simply reverse these steps.

The first item to customize is the Start menu. To switch back to the XP style Start menu, complete these steps:

1. Right click on the Start button and click Properties

2. Click the “Classic Start Menu” choice

3. Click the Apply button and then click Ok.

Your start menu will now be very familiar to you. If you want to go back to the Vista start menu, repeat these steps and choose “Start menu” in step 2.

The next step is to customize the look and feel of the windows. To do this, complete the following steps:

1. Right click on your background image and choose Personalize

2. Click “Window Color and Appearance”

3. Click “Open classic appearance properties for more color options”

4. In the Color scheme list, select “Windows Classic” and click Apply

5. Click Ok and the settings will be saved.

If you ever want to go back to the Vista color scheme, repeat these steps and select “Windows Aero” in step 4.
